DEEP THOUGHTS on Macy's First Birthday
Today (Sunday) is Macy's first birthday, and we can't believe it has already been a year! Looking back in life, a year doesn't seem like too long. After all, we've lived 26 of them! But for Macy, so much has changed in a year. For our family, the past year has been filled with emotions, experiences, and all kinds of great things we had never imagined. It's hard to believe that this little girl that can run around and interact with a personality of her own was just a tiny, helpless baby 12 months ago. It seems like every month (with the exception of the first 3) Philip and I would agree that this was our favorite age. She just keeps getting cuter and cuter! It is so fun to watch her discover the world around her. And for us to discover the things she finds fascinating! (Like the moss in the artificial tree, our China in the cabinet, Murphy's dog food...) She keeps us busy.
Being parents is something that you cannot prepare for, and something you cannot explain. When Macy looks at us with those big eyes, and puts her arms around our neck with a big squeeze, it just warms our hearts. It's crazy to think that she depends on us for everything, and we're practically still kids ourselves! It's so easy to love her, even when she's a toot! We feel so blessed to be Macy's Dad & Mom. Every day is an adventure. When people find out that your pregnant they often say things like "Say goodbye to movies and going out to eat!" It might be true (we haven't seen a movie together in 13 months), but we wouldn't trade any of those movies or meals for our precious daughter. Don't get me wrong, a nite out with a babysitter is a treat, but we don't feel that we're missing out at all. Who knew that and eight and a half pound baby could change your life so much?? What a gift from God!
